Nexstim gains CE mark for navigated brain therapy system for depression, stroke

Nexstim said Monday that its Navigated Brain Therapy (NBT) System received a CE mark, making it the first non-invasive, non-systemic therapeutic device to offer patients a personalised treatment for major depression. In addition, the system is approved for use in patients recovering from stroke as a supplement to conventional rehabilitation.

The company noted that the NBT System's MRI-based navigation allows the user to visualise the electric field inside the patient’s brain and accurately target therapy. Nexstim said that this feature eliminates the unscientific "hit and miss" errors seen with other devices.

Earlier this year, Neuronetics received a CE mark for its similar NeuroStar TMS Therapy System for the treatment of adults with major depressive disorder who have failed to receive satisfactory improvement with antidepressant medications.
