A technical malfunction with the Japanese government's COVID-19 contact tracing app, dubbed COCOA, for smartphones using Apple's iOS operating system has emerged, as reported The Mainichi Daily News on Thursday.
About two weeks ago, the health ministry announced a problem with the COCOA app for the Android operating system.
The Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare has started investigating the error as the app has not been sending information on contact with infected people to some users, such as those with old versions of iOS.
While the problem with the app for Android will be resolved soon, it is unclear when the app for iOS will be fixed, with a ministry official noting that "we will confirm the cause, the scale of the problem and other factors."
