US President Donald Trump on Friday issued an order under the Defense Production Act that seeks to force General Motors (GM) to produce ventilators for coronavirus patients, as reported Yahoo!News.
Trump said the company promised 40,000 ventilators quickly but now said it would build only 6000 in late April.
He noted that his actions will help ensure the quick production of ventilators.
Meanwhile, GM announced its agreement to build ventilators with Ventec Life Systems, and will help Ventec ramp up production.
GM said the company is scheduled to start shipping ventilators as soon as next month, adding that "this effort is in addition to Ventec taking aggressive steps to ramp up production at their manufacturing facility."
