The Japan Medical Association (JMA) recommended that doctors avoid conducting fast diagnostic testing for influenza to prevent being infected by patients carrying the new coronavirus, The Asahi Shimbun reported on Thursday.
The advice was provided to local medical associations after a doctor in Hokkaido tested positive for the coronavirus after carrying out diagnostic testing for influenza on a patient carrying the coronavirus.
The JMA said that doctors should only check patients for influenza by examining their symptoms.
