Intuitive Surgical's Q4 sales up 22% on increased da Vinci procedures, system placements

"Higher fourth-quarter revenue was driven by increased procedures and systems placements," the company said.


Other results:

  • Instrument and accessory sales: $671 million, up 24%, boosted by an increase of about 19% in da Vinci procedure volume globally, driven mainly by growth in US general surgery and worldwide urologic procedures

  • Systems sales: $416 million, up 22%

  • da Vinci surgical systems shipped: 336 shipments, up 16%, with Intuitive noting that 126 of these were shipped in the quarter under operating lease and usage-based arrangements, compared with 84 in the year-ago period

  • Full-year revenue: $4.5 billion, versus $3.7 billion in 2018

  • Full-year profit: $1.4 billion, versus $1.1 billion in 2018
