Brain tumor diagnosis takes only 30 seconds in Taiwan - (Taiwan News via NewsPoints Desk)

  • Study data to be presented at the American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) annual meeting suggest that an artificial intelligence (AI) system is capable of locating brain tumours in less than 30 seconds, Taiwan Times reported Wednesday.
  • The technology, which an automated tumour detection and imaging system developed through machine learning, helps deliver a quick brain examination, diagnosing tumours with a 90% rate of accuracy, according to the news source.

  • The AI system, which was developed through a collaboration between the National Taiwan University Hospital and start up Vysioneer, is capable of spotting the three most common types of brain tumour, namely brain metastasis, meningioma and acoustic neuroma.

  • The hospital has treated more than 20 patients with the new system since July.
